Description
Independence Stadium located in Shreveport Louisiana is owned by the city of Shreveport. This ever expanding stadium is home to the annual Independence Bowl. At one time it was also site of the State Fair. Over the years it has had the short lived World Football League Shreveport Steamers call it home. During the 1994 and 1995 seasons the Shreveport Pirates of the Canadian Football league made the stadium their home. After Hurricane Katrina the New Orleans Saints opened their pre-season here. Numerous other college football games are hosted by the stadium as well as many High School football and soccer games. The stadium also has concert, events and recently underwent a 30 million dollar renovation bringing capacity to about 53000.
This photo was taken at the south exterior of the stadium which is very visible as you are driving on Interstate 20. The firmament supporting the scoreboard resembles the venerated icon of Christianity and may or may not have been intentional but it certainly gets ones attention.
