Description

Riverview Park in Shreveport Louisiana overlooks the beautiful Red River. Red River is the heart of this region. It separates the communities of Shreveport on one side of the river and Bossier on the opposite shore. Casinos are scattered throughout the two river towns and have had a lot to do with the community development of the Riverfront development, a much happier circumstance than what occurred in Atlantic City N.J.
Riverview Park has as I mentioned the view of the river along with a railroad that spans it. Almost directly across from the park is the Golden Horseshoe Casino. The exterior does resemble the color gold particularly as the sun sets in the west and highlights the building in warm light. The park itself has water splash pads and fountains as well as a beautiful feature of architectural metal roses that light up at night. The park is dotted with public art including sculptures and statues.
There is a bike and joggers path known as Clyde Fant Bike Path that follows along the river that you can access by parking in a lot about 2miles away. Run from the lot to the park and back and you have a good 4 mile exercise route. Clyde Fant was a former mayor and champion of Shreveport.
When I was at the park last there was considerable landscaping going on and what seemed to be a beautifully sculpted terraced fountain. Immediately nearby is the science museum known as the Sci Port Science Center which has many interactive displays and is definitely kid friendly. Another main attraction is the R.S. Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center that is said to have a great collection of art.
Also within walking distance are many fine hotels, places to eat and gamble including the Eldorado Casino.
