This historic church in Pingvellir National Park, Iceland was built in 1859. A simple church by todays standards it is uncomplicated and unassuming but Thingvellier, the Anglicized name for this church had been the site of a church that was there 1000 years before this one was built.
Þingvellir the original site of the world’s longest running, still ongoing parliament traces its historic lineage to the year 930 AD. This is where the Alping or Parliamentary Assembly gathered twice a year to set law and settle disputes.
One of the most popular destinations, the National Park offers grand views of the landscape that volcanoes and nature has carved out for tourists to enjoy, many of whom arrive from Reykjavik the country's capital via the Golden Circle. My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...

One doesn't see little churches like this anymore -- as you say, uncomplicated and unassuming, which, come to think of it, is the kind of person one likes to be around. I wonder . . . how many delightful picnics were held on the lawn around the building? May there be more, again.
Jim Cook replied:
Good point, about the kind of people to be around!
