Description
This railroad car is a permanent reminder of railroad history particularly as it applies to East Tennessee. It is located in downtown Bristol in the Wes Davis Greenway park. Wes Davis or Mr. Bristol as he was commonly known was an active city leader.
The Southern Railroad traces its beginnings back to 1849 when it was chartered. Construction began in Bristol around 1854. Later the Civil War became known as the first Railroad War. It figured prominently for both sides of the conflict. The South using it as a major supply line for materials as well as moving men. The Union placed it high on their priority list for attacks.
The park itself is used by those working in the downtown area during lunch breaks and early morning or late afternoon will find those more interested in jogging than walking. The railroad cars are nestled between a creek and the jogging path.
