Artist's Description

I camped about 11 miles away from Bulls Island in a KOA campground. Wish I could recommend it but won't. After setting camp and having supper then enjoying a campfire I went to bed and awoke at 3 AM to drive to the launch site. Almost an hour later 30 or more photographers boarded the ferry which took us to a drop off site where we then hoisted ourselves onto trailers which then towed us to the beach. We were there an hour before sunrise and had plenty of time to search out a good spot. Bulls island is part of the Cape Romaine National Wildlife Refuge. No one is allowed to camp overnight on the island thus sunrise is kind of a rare event for many. These sunrise photography expeditions are timed to coincide with low tide. The refuge itself encompasses about 66000 acres. Aside from the sunrise the island is a mecca for birders, wildlife enthusiasts and just beachcombing enthusiasts looking for shells and sand dollars that you wont find washed up on most tourist beaches. My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
