Aww, this is a very moving image, Jim!! Yes, I thought it was sad at first, but I was happy to read your description saying that this horse is well cared for. But you are right....are any animals really happy being confined? And you're also right that many would not survive if left on their own. Beautiful, powerful image!!! :)))vf

Thank you Laurie!

Wow what an emotive image!! you definitely captured the soul of the animal through its eye, looking at the outside world behind bars… reflecting on its life, wondering why it come all the way to this planet to be locked behind this unnatural environment… my heart ache for its deep thoughts… what a wonderful image, very deep and thought provoking!! Jim Cook replied:

As always Kevin thank you for your comment and support!

Artist's Description

I wouldn't be able to say if this horse is sad but some may take that impression away from this photo. I do know the horse is well cared for as to it's food and grooming. I think it fair to question though whether any animal is content when confined regardless of how well kept it is and how often they are free to roam. To be objective most animals are loved by their owners and in todays society they most often would be in harms way if left on their own.

About Jim Cook

Jim Cook

My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
