Description
Fall's Family chose this as their monument. The photo was taken while visiting the historic Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis Tennessee. The cemetery is one of the original "garden cemeteries". Garden cemeteries sometimes called rural cemeteries would take advantage of the landscape and create park like place.
Elmwood cemetery was one of the first. Beautifully designed incorporating large Oak trees and even Elms that had to be imported from up North. These cemeteries were meant to be inviting so that families would want to relax and even picnic. It also was meant to be a place of rest for the dead.
There are many stories to be told here including those that tell of mass graves for those who died from an outbreak of Yellow Fever.
All wars are represented by those laid to rest here including the American Revolution and Civil War where Union and Confederate men now lay side by side.
Blue can signify death or immortality. It has other meanings as well depending on what part of the world it's associated with. I chose to highlight the memorial in blue signifying immortality.
More of my work from this cemetery as well as others can be viewed here in my collection titled Cemeteries and Statues.
