Description
Two bluebirds atop their nesting box after recent snow. Most likely they are a breeding pair. We put the box up last year to attract them and since then they have had one brood that we observed as they fed them.
When not on top of the nesting box they will normally be seen on the overhead telephone wires fully alert for insects or predators. They are omnivores, feeding on fruit, insects, spiders and if you put up a feeding box, they are particularly fond of dried mealworms. The average lifespan for these Eastern Bluebirds is approximately 6 to 10 years.
