Artist's Description

The sign reads Welcome to Bristol Virginia, Tennessee a Good Place to Live. It is situated near the historic Bristol Train Station which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Originally a depot which figured in two engagements of the Civil War, one of which is known as Stonemans Raid. It resulted in it being called the final blow to the Confederacy.

After the war, Bristol continued to grow, due in no small part to the railroad. Several more depots were built until this stone and brick station was built in 1902.

The station has been wonderfully restored, including a classic grand ballroom. Today it hosts weddings, banquets and conferences amid the rejuvenation of Bristol Tennessee, Virginia.

It is indeed a Good Place to Live
