Hi Jim, Very good. I like the texture of the wood. The affect makes the image look one dimensional. I'm not an artist buff, but I know some painters work to make that effect. while working on the image, did you try Sepia? That may also add additional interest to the image.

Jim Cook replied:

Paul thank you very much for your thoughtful comments!

Artist's Description

Where this church now stands predates the log cabin meeting place when it was first established in the 1920's. The existing church was constructed in 1915 by a J.D. McCampbell. It's said he built it in 115 days for $115.00.

One unique feature of the church is that it has two front doors so that men would enter on one side and women and children through the other. Unlike most other churches of that date there was no physical barrier separating them once inside and they could then sit with whom they pleased.

The church is located at the third stop along the eleven mile loop. As you approach the small parking lot, if you see a parking space before the church, grab it, as parking is at a premium all through Cades Cove.

About Jim Cook

Jim Cook

My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
