Artist's Description

While travelling in Alaska we were in Homer Spit and took a day trip to Seldovia an island in Lower Cook Inlet. Seldovia was once the fishing capital of the world until the catastrophic 1964 Alaska earthquake. The earthquake was not the only reason for the islands demise (2010 population was 255) opening of the Kenai peninsula Sterling Highway as well as slow down of industries that the island depended upon also had negative impact .Today it is an off the beaten path for tourists who will come upon a quirky scene or two such as this one while wandering along the historic boardwalk. The island hosts some small tour boats that are dispatched from Homer. Along the way passengers will marvel at Gull Island. In this safe bird sanctuary are several species of birds that during the summer months build nests, and chicks out. Among the species are Pelagic Comorants, Red faced Comorants, Horned Puffins, Black Winged Kittiwake, Common Mure, Glaucous-Winged Gulls, Tufted Puffins, Pigeon Gillemot....

I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
