Captain Thomas Amis was a fascinating character in his day. When he eventually settled in what was then a part of North Carolina, but today is East Tennessee, he built a fortified home with gun ports instead of windows on the upper half of home because of Indian raids. Now over 200 years old the home still stands Prior to then he had served prominently during the Revolutionary War as a member of the Continental Army. After the war he was a marked man by the British, and so was granted a 1000 acres of land near, what is now Rogersville TN. He became a very successful business man, putting the land and water to good use. Built a tavern and Grist Mill, and was a stopover for pioneers. Today the grounds are used for special events and the Amis Eatery is open to all. The land and buildings were purchased and maintained by his descendants. My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
