Description
Savage River at mile 15 of the park road in Denali National Park. This is the farthest point that private vehicles are allowed without a special permit. From this point on it is by foot or concessionary bus. By crossing the Savage River and later on the Teklanika River and heading towards Healy Alaska you can access the Stampede Trail the same trail made a bit more noteworthy because of the book "Into The Wild" by Jon Krakauer and later filmed by director Sean Penn.It tells the story of Chris McCandless who tested his ability to survive in this harsh land and tragically lost his life. This photo was taken late August, Fall was well under way, runoff from melting snow and rain which is frequent for this temperate climate can change this peaceful scene into something much more dangerous for those unprepared or foolhardy.
