Artist's Description

One of those obscure, somewhat strange roadside attractions found throughout the country. This is actually alongside a bayou in Chauvin (pronounced show-van) Louisiana. A sculpture garden built between the years 1990 to 2000. Consists of over 100 stone sculptures and a 45 ft. tall lighthouse. Mostly biblical in nature but interspersed with angels are jazz musicians, Iwo Jima flag raising, slavery, cowboys and Indians , birds and other subjects. All are brightly colored and even gaudy. Some are painted in black face and others are painted half black and half white Mr Hill even sculpted his likeness into scenes and can be seen carrying Christ's cross. Mr. Hill ran afoul of the parish (county, municipality) he lived in for not maintaining the grounds allowing weeds to take over. He was subsequently evicted and left on foot never to be seen again but not before knocking the head of Jesus off of a statue.

My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
