In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.

Artist's Description

Very near the entrance to the loop road that takes you through Cades Cove in "The Great Smoky Mountains National Park" is this cabin known as John Olivers Place. Truth is that he built this place as a honeymoon house for his son. John and Lucretia Oliver were the first white settlers in the area. The very first winter was spent in an abandoned Indian hut after which they built their 1st home close by.
The park sees over a million visitors every year. The 11 mile loop road can take several hours to complete. The walk uphill to this particular site will take several minutes and there will be many who will accompany you. On the walk back I found a set of car keys in the dirt. Luckily it was from a rental vehicle and had the make and color of the vehicle identified on it. I found the car and placed my photography business card and the keys on his front windshield. The next day I received a nice text to my phone thanking me.
Living in Tennessee now I hope to make this park a consta...

About Jim Cook

Jim Cook

My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
