Description
Travelling through Denali by bus is an adventure in and of itself. The 91 mile road most of which is unpaved is continually challenging drivers as they vavigate hairpin turns alongside sheer cliffs. Did I mention there are no guardrails! Your courage is rewarded though with sightings of Grizzly bears,Dall sheep,Moose,Wolves, and 169 bird species. Only the first 15 miles is open to private vehicles beyond that point the interior of the park is accessed by the busses. The word Denali means the "High One" and at 20,320 ft it is just that. Mt McKinley was named after President William McKinley of Ohio in 1897. In 1980 the name was changed back to Denali though the U.S. Board of Geographic Names maintains"McKinley". A clear view of the mountain is possible only about 20% of the time during the summer. You can leave the busses at any time and be free to go explore. When done make your way back to the road and wait for one of the busses making a return trip. What a great photo, Jim! Amazing detail and colors. Even the shadows are just perfect. Your description, too, was a "trip"--reminding me of the Apache Trail (Arizona) and Hana Highway (Maui). L/F
Jim Cook replied:
Thank you so much Connie! Those trails you mentioned, I will be sure to check them out.

Jim, Remarkable scenic photo with such great detail in the foreground and background of this fantastic photo. Love the bus riding along the side of the mountain kicking up all of the dirt in it's rear. Great depth to this photo as the mountain draws you in and you are taken to the top of the mountain. Excellent photo, voted, google, tweet and FB promoted
