Description
The precursor or original image to this one can be seen in my collection titled Infrared. The image itself is titled Generation Gap.
Inspiration is something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create. The image was made at Valley Forge National Park just outside of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. While walking the trails there I Came upon this scene which was of two trees. The full healthy looking tree followed close behind by the sparse ill looking one. I composed it and deliberately cropped in camera, half of the stronger tree out of the frame. What I hoped to create at that time was the suggestion of age. Youth and vitality as opposed to aging and frailty. I called this first version Generation Gap Later the urge to create something else from this original photograph took hold and I reworked it to that which can be seen in my infrared gallery here within FAA. A friend who is seemingly inspired every waking moment made a suggestion regarding the second version and thought that with further work it could be a much stronger image, he was right. As he, I and one other friend collaborated, this latest version was arrived at Natures Gladiator. Inspiration can be an individual experience or even a group effort. I believe it is also infectious. This title was chosen because symbolically trees are very much like gladiators in that they are strong, able to gain a foothold then withstand adversity and survive. More of my work can be seen here in FAA at http://1-jim-cook.pixels.com/

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
