Considered to be the most beautiful black sand beach in this Nordic country. Iceland has many of them and though known as black sand, it is really more pebbles than sand. To walk in this area is a very unusual experience. It is a rugged coast with the Atlantic waves crashing in, sometimes probably to close for comfort, so beware.
Sea stacks in the water catch every photographers eye as do the basalt columns and cliffs.
The area is known as Myrdalshreppur. Go ahead and try to pronounce it. You will be better off using the shorter, nearby town's name of Vik.
A days drive from the capital city of Reykjavik along the south coast which will provide many opportunities to stop and see.
Once there parking will be a bit of a challenge with busses coming and going, so park at first chance. There is a restaurant and the beach is only a short walk away.

My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
