Old Barney or Ol Barney as sometimes called has been an important navigational point for ships captains going to and from the New York Harbor. Barnegat inlet was a difficult passage because of its current, shoals and sandbars that changed constantly.
Today the lighthouse is the main attraction of the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, and is also listed on the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail.
The state park, located on the Northern tip of Long Beach Island, Ocean County New Jersey offers scenic views of the lighthouse especially at sunrise or the blue hour at sunset, when this photo was taken. The jetty offers a refreshing walk along the water where a variety of wildlife will be seen. Fishing and crabbing also will be going on. And if you get hungry, be sure to stop in at Kelly's, Old Barney Restaurant for some delicious seafood!
