Artist's Description

This photograph was taken at Cadillac Mountain on Mt Desert Island within Acadia National Park. At 1532 ft the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard it is the first place in the U.S to view sunrise from October through March. This particular morning while I wasn't up early enough to catch the sunrise it was early enough to take advantage of the light and highlight some of the vegetation that has taken root alongside of the mountain.The mountain is mostly composed of pink granite and forests of spruce and pitch pine.The route to the top has many pull offs to leave a vehicle and go explore. Cycling is very popular here as well as hiking.There are several trails to the top ranging in difficulty from challenging to easy but full day required South trail being the easier one. The park loop road is 3.5 miles to the top and is winding and scenic so scenic that you have to be concerned with safety as you have cliffs on the side and the scenes and vistas can easily distract. My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
