So much history here, so many ghosts of people in the past with stories to tell. How many people sat at the "porch" together, just jawing after the day was done . . .

Jim Cook replied:

Yes, if those walls could only talk!

Artist's Description

Natchitoches Louisiana is (pronounced "Knack-ah-tish") and is the oldest permanent settlement still in existence from the Louisiana Purchase. Said to have been established in 1714. This home was most likely built at the turn of the century about 1803. Constructed by a Freedman of color and further downstream from its current location. It's named after the last occupant, Madame Albert Roque.
If you visit you will find this to be most accommodating with many Bed and Breakfast establishments within a 33 block area that is the "National Historic Landmark District". Their are restaurants to suit all tastes from Cajun to Contemporary. Museums, galleries, shops, historic architecture and the highlight is that for a good distance it is all within walking distance of the banks of the Cane River. For more photos of this area as well as my other artwork please visit my galleries here in FAA

About Jim Cook

Jim Cook

My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
