Description
The electric sign on top of the building, symbolizing Scranton as "The Electric City," is a local landmark. It is situated in the heart of Scranton between City Hall and overlooking the Courthouse.
On Dec 06 1880 Dickson Locomotive Works installed electric lights just months after Mr. Edison refined the bulb suitable for commercial use. Electric street lights soon followed and shortly afterwards the first Electric Street Cars to be run solely on Electric power in the country began to run
Credit for the city nickname has been credited to Rev. David Spencer, D.D, a Pastor at the Penn Avenue Baptist Church.
