Description
The dynamic looking sky was seen when visiting this saltwater basin while with a group of photographers in Death Valley National Park. What appears to be water is actually a substance known as borate formed from salt deposits. Some names that might be more familiar to an older generation might be Borax a detergent made widely recognized by the TV show Death Valley Days hosted by ex President Ronald Reagan. A 20 mule team was featured hauling the material. Badwater is about 18 miles from Furnace Creek Ranch but has become increasingly popular with tourists perhaps because of it's designation being 282 feet Below Sea Level. We found that traveling even further along the road we had areas all to ourselves. Polygons a favorite for photographers were nowhere to be seen most likely due to the flooding that plagued California these past months. More of my work can be seen here in my collections in FAA
