Description
"Lord, Remember Me. O Thou, from Whom all goodness flows, I lift my soul to Thee; In all my sorrows, conflicts, woes, Good Lord, remember me." Soldiers Prayer from Civil War.
Memorial to young men, who were going off to war (Civil War).
The night before departing they would come to this overlook, above the Susquehanna River and pray for a safe return.
The irony here is that both sides prayed to the same God hoping for different outcome.
The statue is of Pvt William L Millham. At the first call for volunteers, he enlisted at the age of 16. He served continuously until the wars end.
Upon his death, at the age of 72, he was survived by his wife, 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Photo was taken at what is called Old City Cemetery, in Wilkes-Barre PA, USA. Adjacent to the better known Hollenback Cemetery.
