Description
In 1868, Edward Mcllhenny combined salt and pepper and created Tabasco Sauce. From thereon he became a conservationist of wildlife and plants. He is credited with saving the snowy egret from extinction. He also went on to create gardens throughout the island that became a sanctuary for wildlife and a home to so many different plants, trees, among them the impressive live southern oaks and even bamboo that was imported from China.
This stone bridge was constructed over a lagoon, within a Chinese Garden that features a 900 year old statue of Buddah that was given to Mcllhenny as a gift. There are several of this type of bridge to be found swhile walking the footpaths.
