Description
This is one of two photos selected for "Single Image Award Winners" and being published in Issue 101 B&W Magazine due on bookshelves Jan 2014. Photograph was taken in Scranton Pennsylvania USA at a place called "Olde Good Things". They collect, purchase, then resell all manner of items from estates, museums, graveyards, old buildings etc......
Items include doors, fences, plumbing fixtures, antiques, one of a kind and unique oddities and a lot of architectual artifacts from old buildings.......
Photographers will find textures, patterns, colors, props, ideas to keep a fertile mind busy for quite a while.
This stone piece is said to be from a museum and is just part of a very large wall of similar images.
This photograph when viewed by others said it called to mind a book of photos by Fred Gibson titled "The Somnambulist". The model "Dahiana" does appear to be sleeping and evokes a surreal feeling to the scene......
Olde Good Things have many locations including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Here in Scranton they are located at 411 Gilligan street. If you go check with the staff but I have found them very accomadating and allow us to roam throughout the interior as well as the outside grounds. Especially the outside with its varied fences, large columns, machinery is ideal for shooting at different times of day and weather.....
I have to tip my hat to Curtis Salonick a noted Gothic photographer who first shared this location with me.More of my work (Jim Cook Photography) can be seen here in FAA or at my web site of same name or on FB.
