Description
This cemetery which dates back to the Civil War has been known by many names over the years. Maryland Hill, Round Hill, City Cemetery and Rooster Hill which got it's name from some of the town folk who would gather there for cock fights. The first burial took place in 1857 when a 5 year old girl was buried there. Since then over 4000 more burials have occurred. During the war a hospital had been set up in town and those who did not survive their wounds were buried here. There are some 300 mostly unknown soldiers but also veterans from other wars buried here. There is also a section of the cemetery that was used for slaves. East Hill Cemetery is on the border of Bristol Tennessee and Bristol Virginia. More photos of mine from the Civil War as well as from the state of Tennessee can be seen in my collections here in FAA.
