Artist's Description
Chapman H. Hyam had this mausoleum built to house his families remains. This replica of "The Angel of Grief" is perhaps the most photographed statue in the world. Blue stained glass covers the marble statue in soft blue light. At its base is the inscription "Sister" meant to honor his sisters.Tomb is located on the grounds of the Metairie Cemetery New Orleans Louisiana. The cemetery name causes confusion for some (myself included) as it is not located in the town by the same name but is actually in New Orleans.
Some who have viewed this photo in the Work of Art Gallery and Gifts in Bristol Tennessee have said it reminds them of a Dr Who episode from 2007 titled "Blink" where a race of predatory creatures wreak havoc on unsuspecting humans. Known as the Weeping Angels. More work from this location as well as other notable cemeteries can be viewed here in my collections in FAA.
About Jim Cook
My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
