Description
William Tipton became a homesteader under the Tennessee Land Grant Program sometime in the 1820's. He soon obtained other land grants and convinced family and friends to buy from him at a profit and further develop the area. Sometime around 1870 Civil War Veteran Colonel Hamp Tipton built the two story cabin. His two daughters Miss Lizzie and Miss Lucy were schoolmarms in Cades Cove. Over the years more relatives bought land from the Colonel and the community grew. More of my work from this area of The Great Smoky Mountains can be seen in my collection of the same name here in FAA.
