Artist's Description
This photo was taken after a long day of re-enacting the Battle of Wyoming which took place in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania on July 03 1778. Life as it was at this time in history is depicted by men , women and children who for the entire day set up camps for the Colonists, the Loyalists and even the Iroquois Indians who figure prominantly in this event. Everything from the food they prepare and eat as well as uniforms and clothing worn have to meet authentic historical standards. The everyday mundane comes jarringly up against the battle which is very excitingly recreated. In between there are skirmishes within the woods, troops practicing maneuvers and even some entertainment by music from that time period and games that were popular at that time.
I noticed that the actors never step out of character, if you engage them in conversation they speak in the vernacular of the day and are very knowledgeable of their particular role as well as the others.

Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...

The irony of men going off to do battle while dressed in such silly outfits!! I love how you cropped this and your description is so interesting! I'd love to go to this someday, but am afraid I may be under-dressed for the occasion! . . . can't find my red and white socks!!!
