Description
Originally titled Solar Opposites but later changed to "Who Am I" is the 2nd of two images selected as "Single Image Award Winners" and were published in B&W Magazine's Special Issue 101.
This started off as an abstract in color but decided to take it a couple steps further and this was the end result. I initially titled it "Solar Opposites" but wasn't entirely sold on that so I posted it on my FB page and asked for suggestions and said I would award an 8 x 12 print for the winning entry.
The replies included the following. "Confronting Your Demons", "Iceolation" the spelling was intentional, Ice Age", "Polar Optic", "Looking Glass", "My Inner Self", "The Great Spirit", " A Shadow of My Former Self", "Smoke Chalk and Mirrors", "Pieces", "Walls", "Lonely Walk", "Rear View Mirrors". The person who submitted "Confronting Your Demons" mentioned that he actually preferred my original title and so with that affirmation I decided to stick with it and in fairness I awarded the free print to him.
It was later on that a viewer wrote a lengthy message as to what the image said to him that I used his words "Who Am I" as the new title. He felt it spoke to Identity, especially in today's world.
What I most like about this image is its ability to render so many different opinions of it's subject or meaning. My personal feeling is that there is something that makes me feel as if it has something to do with the soul and I am trying to write something along that line to show with the photo.
UPDATE: Thank you for submitting your work for PhotoPlace Gallerys juried exhibition, "Black and White". Juror Dean Brierly has chosen 35 photographs for the gallery exhibition, and an additional 40 photographs for display in the Online Gallery on the PhotoPlace Gallery website. Its a wonderful and very diverse collection of work.
I am very pleased to tell you that one of your images was selected for print exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery. Congratulations!
