Description
My first pass after spotting this heron resulted in paddling my kayak back upriver to get a little closer. I became so intent on the picture taking that I didn't realize the swiftness of the current directed me right into the tangled mess of a fallen tree. Kayak went out from under me and I was left hanging onto a branch. What I had failed to take notice of was the fact that the night before 2 inches of rain had fallen north of us and ever since, the river kept rising and getting faster. Fortunately, I was with my wife and friends who managed to save my kayak. Not so lucky was my camera and gear which were completely soaked. It was the only time I have gone out on the river without using a drybag. I was wearing a life vest though and if I let go of the branch it would have helped keep my head out of the water as I went with the current. Thankfully that didn't happen as a motorboat soon came to my aid and brought me to safety. The disk wasn't damaged, and I have a number of pictures from my misadventure and will never again underestimate the power of water. This all took place on the Susquehanna River near Tunkhannock Pennsylvania.

The heron let you get a beautiful shot even though you were heading for the tree you became tangled with! Glad you were OK and not in FL where there are gators. Beautiful shot! You are a great story teller! Sorry about your equipment!! l/f
