Big Horn Sheep did not survive in this area and had to be reintroduced to the park in the early 70's. A small number of them less than 15 increased the population to well over 400 or so. Today as you drive along the mountain road you may spot them making their way along side the mountain ridges or up high on ridges. As a general rule it is not a common sight to see so many in one group as this. Desert Big Horn Sheep are a different breed than their Rocky Mountain neighbors. Their legs are longer and bodies smaller but can subsist on lesser amounts of water. Several reasons contributed to their demise the first time around. Human encroachment, hunting, loss of habitat, and after coming into contact with domesticated livestock disease as much as the above factors also doomed them. Todays population is worrisome in that disease outbreaks could reoccur from same contact. Hunting is no longer a problem as they are protected within the park. My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
