About Jim Cook

Jim Cook Being semi - retired from a paint contracting business I now have more time for travel and photography. My body of work ranges from surreal to the more traditional scenes of landscapes and the everyday scenes of life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It’s there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create something entirely new. My education in photography consists of a couple of continuing education courses from a local university. From there I joined a photo club where most of my education really took place through trial and error. I used to say that I was self-taught but to say that would be to not acknowledge friends and peers who have influenced, guided, been honest in their critiques of my work. I am a composite of all that experience and now bring my own talents, skill and vision to that mix. 2017 I was honored by having 'NOLA Memories' selected for inclusion in the 82nd Annual National Exhibition held in Cooperstown NY. In 2016 I was notified that an image 'Love At First Sight' had been juried into the 81st National Exhibition in Cooperstown New York. . In a previous exhibition at Cooperstown my photo titled 'The Warrior' won the 'Frank Proctor Whiting' award. 2 earlier images won Single Image Awards and were published in B&W Magazine. I am now a member of 'A Work of Art Gallery and Gifts' in Downtown Bristol Tennessee / Virginia. Do check in often as my best work will always be my next work!
