Description
Cotswold Sheep are a unique and rare breed of longwool sheep. Originally from the Cotswold Hills of England they made their way to the United States when Christopher Dunn imported one to breed with his flock of ewes. The result was so impressive that by 1914 over 760,000 crossbreeding’s had been recorded. Sought after for its wool which is luxurious and strong and produces a knit similar to Mohair in fact it has been called the “Poor Man’s Mohair”. Other reasons for its popularity is that it has a less gamey taste than even young lambs. It requires less feed than other breeds and will survive where its counterparts will perish. This photo was taken at Rocky Mt Tennessee on the grounds of the Cobb Massengill House and Museum just outside the village of Piney Flats Tennessee. This is one of the young born this spring. Very calm, curious and friendly. More of my work can be viewed here in FAA by visiting my collections or at my website http://www.jimcookphotography.com
