From recent trip to Death Valley National Park. When I started my trip the temperatures were above average for location I flew out of in Northeast PA. Upon arriving in Las Vegas temperatures were in the low 40's. It never went above mid 60's and often was much colder in early morning and some of the elevations we visited. This dramatically changed my perception of what a desert was supposed to be like. The second perception to drastically change was my thoughts as to the geography. I had envisioned a vast unending view of dunes and sand. Instead I found mountains, canyons, and the occasional oasis with accompanying tourist gift shops, lodging and gas. To be sure the views are a treat for the eyes but there are also long stretches of rocky barren ground. Spring flowers were nowhere in sight and in fact we were told they would be later this year than normal. Flooding that plagued much of California this year also impacted the park by washing out access roads so that popular destinations...
My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
