This was spotted on a recent night shoot in Scranton Pa on a street that is mostly filled with empty storefronts of closed businesses. At one end of the block though is the building that houses "The Scranton Times" a newspaper still functioning if not thriving.
Much has occurred in technology and society that has contributed to the newspapers demise. The internet is most culpable, then the seemingly endless parade of news channels and or entertainment vehicles that masquerade as news follows close behind. Society in its haste to keep pace with all the time saving devices technology provides has developed a massive case of attention deficit disorder. As newspapers disappear so it seems does journalistic responsibility. Fact checks are often hindsight as every outlet now rushes to present their story first. That was always the case even when newspapers were in their heyday only there was more due diligence to get it right.
My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
