The Santa Elena Canyon Trail is an iconic hike within the Big Bend National Park. Trail starts at canyon opening near a sandy beach. Concrete steps lead upward, in switchbacks, offering some breathtaking views. At end of the concrete steps, you begin a downward hike to the river.
Once you reach the shore, you could throw a stone across the Rio Grande River and hit the limestone cliffs on the Mexican side.
I was here in late March and was able to walk through the river, even as kayaks and canoes made there way through it. Other times of the year, the trail may be closed due to flooding.
It is a hike that by most descriptions is considered to be an easy 1.6 mile out and back trail.
My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
