Artist's Description
Michelangelo said he saw the angel in the marble and carved until he set him free.
Angels are sometimes said to be messengers. That is the translation from several languages. They are usually said to be messengers from God.
Angels have populated many cultures throughout history. They even predate the Hebrew Book of Genesis. Many religions believe in angels. They are considered to be helpful and guardians sometimes warning of impending disaster or danger.
Michelangelo's artworks be they sculptures or paintings made them a main subject or an integral piece.
