Artist's Description

Winter colors or winter blues depending on how you feel about cold weather in general. This was taken at Lake Bistineau Louisiana. The water was dappled by sunlight playing on it. Lake Bistineau Louisiana is constantly being drained to kill off the invasive plant known as Giant Salvinia. The plant takes over whatever body of water it invades. It resembles a thick dirty green carpet. Once drained and the plant dies off the bottom of the lake turns to a brown residue of all that remains of the weed.
This has been an annual event for the past 6 years. This picture was taken as it neared its normal level. It will have to be drained again during the year ahead. The plant definitely hinders enjoyment of water activities as it becomes near impossible to navigate boats through it. Sadly very recently a helicopter crashed in a nearby lake also infected with the Salvinia and it took days to recover the victims bodies. More photos of this lake can be seen in my gallery "Louisiana" here in FA...

I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
