Description
The Birthplace of Country Music Mural is an attraction that works well, with the Twin Cities efforts to bolster music tourism. The twin cities are Bristol Tennessee and Bristol Virginia. The dividing line between the two towns is State Street.
The mural was designed, and hand painted by local artist and musician Tim White in 1987.
A banjo player himself, he wanted to "make a big deal" of the musicians he learned were recorded in 1987, which brought country music to the masses. Those musicians were Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family and the Stoneman Family.
They were recorded by RCA's Ralph Peers during the 1927 Bristol Sessions.
It has become a landmark, so much so, that tourists will be found nearly every day posing for selfies in front of it.
May through September concerts take place, and a Farmers Market is held there as well.
