Artist's Description
Built in 1793, a community was formed in Bradford County, Pennsylvania for French refugees fleeing the French Revolution and slave uprisings in Saint-Domingue. It also included a grand mansion that supposedly was meant as refuge for Marie Antoinette but there are no records to support her ever having visited or stayed there prior to her execution. Little remains today, but at one time the settlement consisted of town square, shops, a chapel, and a distillery. The community came to be known as French Azilum.
About Jim Cook
My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
