Zion National Park is threatened by Bureau of Land Management’s desire to sell rights to drill for oil and gas within 1 mile of this national landmark. The park already facing major concerns because of the area being a worldwide destination for tourists. The vehicular traffic that is associated from tourism is straining the park and neighboring towns like Springdale Utah. The last time I was there in 2016 I was disheartened to learn that a lottery may be in the future to limit visitors. Add to the existing situation more traffic that will result from fracking and drilling and you can be sure that the traffic congestion will only worsen and that scenic vistas will be degraded, as well as the night sky that is relatively unspoiled by outside light sources. Fracking in Utah and other states have been linked to earthquakes. Contamination of water is another worry for residents and business owners. My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
