Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. Todays portraits can trace their roots all the way back to the dawn of man when we first began drawing them on the walls of caves. Further samples of portrait genre are the sculpted portraits from ancient Egypt. Next, during the age of antiquity, portraiture reached its heyday The term Age of Antiquity is most often used when referring to the classical civilizations of the Mediterranean, especially Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. From the beginning portraits not only described physical features but even more importantly power and status. There was a decline through the Middle ages but the Renaissance saw a resurgence and reinvention that became a turning point in the history of portraiture. From that point in time to present day the field of portraiture has traveled many roads. At one time portraits tended to be only of the royals, nobles and religious figures but soon came to include the bourgeoisie and often as not the immediate circle of artists and even nameless models.

About Jim Cook
My body of work ranges from photographic digital art to the more traditional use of a camera photographing scenes of landscapes and everyday life. My photography has its roots going back to my experiences with infrared film. It was there that I saw how an image could be manipulated to something much more different than what was first seen. I still compose some photos from the infrared spectrum only now I use a camera converted to IR. When digital came along it was an easy move to software and all the possibilities that were and are now possible with their use. Still the initial composition in camera is paramount and once the shutter is closed and image transferred to computer, I can turn my imagination loose and enhance or create...
