Description
Great Bend National Park features some incredible rock formations. One of its more amazing ones is Balanced Rock. To access it you will have a moderate hike with a challenging last 1/4 mile to the top over a landscape of boulders. The entire hike is about 2.2 miles round trip. You will start where you park your vehicle near the trailhead, then hike over a gravel wash to the aforementioned last 1/4 mile to the top. Once there you will be rewarded with a panoramic view and of course the balanced rock itself.
Your vehicle should have high clearance and passenger cars, minivans and RVs are discouraged. Its approximately 6 miles from the highway and is a dirt road strewn with holes and rocks that will tear up an undercarriage. Be sure to have plenty of water and know that there is no shade. The views are fantastic and if there for sunrise or a sunset, most likely you will be in for a treat.
