Description
Trap Pond State Park in the state of Delaware is a lovely place that is so enticing in its beauty that I was surprised having it nearly to myself. I went camping there at beginning of week so we wouldn't have too many people to contend with during the Pandemic. Turned out to be a wise decision because as I learned later the park was at near capacity by weekend.
Trap Pond water was calm, tranquil and made kayaking and photographing easier than expected. Small stand of cypress trees near middle of pond are first trees you come too and are fun to swing in and around while photographing them and the different birds that use them.
If you keep going, you come up to these trees in photo that are going to lead you into a fresh water swamp with different paths or avenues to explore. It was once an extensive wetland. Today the baldcypress trees are the northernmost natural stand of these fascinating deciduous knobby kneed hardwoods, some of which are 500 years old. The pond itself was created in the 1700's to power a sawmill used to harvest them.
