Description
Batsto Village is nationally recognized as an historic site. It has survived hundreds of years. 1776 is the year that the iron works was built. Abundant natural resources made it an ideal site. During the American Revolutionary war, the iron works made supplies for the Continental Army.
The iron works saw a decline around the mid 1800's and became a glassmaking community of some renown until that business declined as well.
New Jersey purchased the properties mid 1950's allowing the folks still living there to stay as long as they liked. The last house was vacated in 1989.
The Batsto village is located within the Wharton State Forest and if visiting you will find it a beautiful and relaxing walk-through history.
