Description
A Rural farm scene from Americas past once a way of life that sustained this country and many generations of farmers. Whether progress makes this right or wrong sad or not the family farm is being replaced by large corporations that are doing the same work but with far fewer farmhands. In 1862 Abraham Lincoln created the U.S Department of Agriculture. At that time 90 out of every 100 Americans were farmers, today there are just 2 out of 100. At the time of the USDA creation their motto was "Agriculture is the foundation of manufacture and commerce" In a weird turn around it can probably be said that manufacture and commerce are now the foundation of agriculture. Inventions and innovation in machinery, techniques, and distribution have helped this come about.
