Description
The Great White Egret is sometimes called the Great White Heron and is only slightly smaller than it. It maybe because of its all white plumage that it has the reputation for being graceful and stately. They are also distinguished by their long black legs and long, dagger like yellow bills.
It is a wading bird that stalks its prey or will often just stand in place until something like a small fish, crab or frog swims its way to them.
This particular bird was spotted on a jetty in the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park of New Jersey, very near the landmark lighthouse known as Old Barney located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island
