Description
This hydroelectric plant was designed in 1899 by a local architect D.J. Teague and completed in 1902. The Romanesque design was chosen to accent the feeling of power. Water arrives via a 2 1/4 mile long canal about 20 feet deep from St Marys River and the Ashmun Bay.The electricity generated here is enough to power 1/5 th of the Upper Eastern Peninsula of Michigan. The Cloverland Electric Cooperative is a not for profit co-op.
